Camp Gencheff’s purpose is to provide quality programs for adults and children with intellectual and physical disabilities. We offer a wide variety of fun, safe, and fully-accessible programs for children and adults.
For our clients, being around other individuals with different abilities provides an experience like no other. Clients can learn from one another and be part of an environment that makes all clients feel respected and welcome. Our purpose is to offer programming that enriches the quality of life for all of our clients.
Our philosophy is "Focus on Ability." We believe every client should leave our facility feeling confident, independent, safe, and happy.

● Our Story
1959
The idea of Camp Gencheff started with Mr. Baxter, who suggested building a cottage hospital near the seashore to provide a summer holiday camp for “Polios and other crippled children.”
He presented his ideas and tentative plans at a meeting of the PEI Polio Foundation, which would operate for six weeks, accommodating approximately 20 children per two-week period. He envisioned winterizing the facility so it could also be rented to other organizations.
1960
In 1960, Dr. Gencheff reported that he and other trustees had purchased 30 acres of Bellevue Farm shore property for $5,000.00. These days, it’s hard to imagine a price like that! He spoke of the desirability of the location in being close to Charlottetown and the suitability of the shore. When constructed, it will be open to all handicapped children.
1961
With the help of the Canadian Polio Foundation, Dr. Tudor Gencheff opened the doors of Camp Gencheff to our first Campers. The camp began with just a few rustic cabins.
1992
Our current modern, year-round facility was built.
Over the years…
We have expanded our programs to better support islanders with disabilities and their families. We offer weekend overnight respites, an adult day program, an after-school program, a children's summer day program, and a PD day program.
