Water and Sewer

News 31/3/2011

Our water and sewer line project was recently completed. We welcomed Minister Shea for the announcement of ACOA and Provincial assistance.

“Our Government is pleased to partner with the provincial government and Camp Gencheff Inc. to support upgrades to this important centre,” said the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans. “Facilities like Camp Gencheff provide social, physical and economic benefits to communities that enrich the quality of life enjoyed by children, teens and adults with special needs.”

The Government of Canada, through the ACOA, and the Province of Prince Edward Island, through the Island Community Fund, are investing $21,100 respectively. Camp Gencheff Inc. is providing $23,300 towards the upgrades.

A response in The Guardian from one of Camp Gencheff’s first Campers Sally MacKinnon Larter:

What great news that federal and provincial governments are spending in excess of $42,000 for water and sewer upgrades to Camp Gencheff.
The benefits reaped from this facility by its clients and our Island society cannot be expressed in a few words. As a polio victim, I am proud to have been one of the camp’s clients that first summer and that experience is still vivid today. To have known Dr. T. Gencheff is an honour and I will never forget all he did for me. In recent years, I have enjoyed several Christmas dinners there with Queens County Residential Services friends and my heart skips a beat every time I enter the facility. It is a very special place whose mandate serves some of the most loving souls in our midst and surely deserves all the support of government and Islanders alike. It is a haven to many people with special needs and must never be lost. Just the name itself speaks volumes to me.
